23 December 2024

The green of their backpacks and jackets can already be seen on Via della Conciliazione. On Friday, December 21, the first 100 volunteers for the 2025 Jubilee arrived enthusiastically at the InfoPoint and the Domus Spei. All are recognizable thanks to the Holy Year logo and the color green, which symbolizes the hope that this Jubilee is already proclaiming to the world. Young people and adults, women and men from all over the world have arrived in Rome keen to put themselves at the service of pilgrims. The first commitment will be in a few days, on December 24, when the solemn opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica and the Mass presided over by Pope Francis will take place, thus officially opening the Jubilee.

On Friday morning, the volunteers had an important training session at the InfoPoint on via della Conciliazione 7 before going to the Domus Spei, the base for volunteers set up in a building in via dei Monti della Farina, near Largo Argentina, which will host them for the entire period of their service in Rome.

Among the new arrivals is Alessandro, who is 29 years old and comes from Bergamo in northern Italy. "I chose to volunteer thanks to the experience I had of volunteering in 2023 at the World Youth Day in Lisbon,” explained Alessandro, a religious education teacher. He added: “It also gives me the opportunity to serve the Church in a deeper way, helping all pilgrims to experience the Jubilee with happiness and intensity".

Another volunteer, Javier, came to Rome from Costa Rica. He is 21 years old. He said: "I decided to volunteer for the Jubilee because it offered me the experience of cultural exchange, which is very enriching, but also because it gives me the chance to respond to God's call to serve others".

Carla comes from Mexico. She said: "It is very exciting to be here in Rome and share this commitment for all young people. I signed up through my parish, and it really is a privilege to be able to offer this service."
