The church, dedicated to St Catherine of Siena, was designed by the architect Baldassarre Peruzzi and built in 1526. It is linked to the history of the Archconfraternity of the Sienese. It fell into ruin before being demolished and then rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century thanks to works co-ordinated by Paolo Posi, himself from Siena.
