Solemn opening of the Jubilee Year in the dioceses of the world
On December 29th, in conjunction with the rite of opening of the Holy Door in the Papal Basilica of St John Lateran in Rome, Bishops celebrated the solemn opening of the Jubilee Year in cathedrals and co-cathedrals across the world, celebrating Mass according to the Ritual prepared for the occasion by the Dicastery for Evangelization.
As indicated by the Bull of Indiction, Spes non confundit, diocesan pilgrimages were organized throughout the world from a designated church, to the cathedral, a sign of the journey of hope that, illuminated by the Word of God, unites believers.
The Holy Year in local Churches will end on Sunday, December 28, 2025, just ahead of the closing of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican on January 6, 2026, the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord, which will mark the end of the Jubilee.
