January 26 marks the 6th ‘Sunday of the Word of God’ this celebration to be held in the Jubilee Year
On Sunday, January 26, 2025, the 6th ‘Sunday of the Word of God’ will be celebrated in all the dioceses of the world, and on this occasion, it will be held in the context of the Jubilee Year. This is a deeply pastoral initiative that Pope Francis introduced to make people understand how important the Word of God is in the daily life of the Church and in Christian communities. In this context the Word is not confined to a book, but always remains alive and active becoming a concrete and tangible presence in people’s life.
The motto chosen by the Holy Father for the 2025 edition is a verse from Psalm 119, "I hope in your Word".
The Pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, said. "It is a cry of hope: men and women, in moments of anguish, tribulation and confusion, cry out to God and place all their hope in him.”
Pope Francis will preside over Mass in St. Peter's Basilica, an event that will coincide with the first great Jubilee of the World of Communication.
To prepare for the celebration, the Dicastery for Evangelization has produced a liturgical-pastoral guide which is downloadable free online. The document, available in Italian, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Polish, is designed to support parish communities and dioceses.
