MEMORARE '24: music and dance for peace in the Basilica of Saint Petronius
On Monday September 16, 2024, at 8:30 pm, the Basilica of Saint Petronius in Bologna, Italy, will host "Memorare '24: Music and Dance for Peace", a preparatory event for the 2025 Jubilee which combines spirituality and art. After the success of the 2022 event, the initiative will once again offer a chance for participants to reflect on the fundamental values of our spirituality, promoting a message of peace and universal brotherhood.
The event, sponsored by the Dicastery for Evangelization, curated by Vittoria Cappelli, Valentina Bonelli and Don Stefano Culiersi, is backed by the Archdiocese of Bologna, the Bologna City Council and the local theatre, the Teatro Comunale. Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, speaking at the press conference launching the event, underlined the fact that “Memorare ‘24 is not merely an artistic event, but a real moment of preparation for the upcoming Jubilee … it is an opportunity for spiritual reconciliation, in the wake of Pope Francis’ Encyclical, Fratelli tutti, which inspired the initiative.”
The artistic project is based around three main themes: war, transition between conflict and reconciliation, and peace, represented through dance, music, song, and words. The diptychs “conflict and lament”, “prayer and compassion” and “reconciliation and hope” will guide the public on an emotional and reflective journey within the magnificent setting of the Basilica of Saint Petronius. Among the artists taking part are the actor Gabriele Lavia, the dancer Jacopo Tissi, the ballerina Maia Makhateli, the flamenco dancer Sergio Bernal and many other internationally renowned performers.
Admission is free, but tickets must be booked through Eventbrite or the Teatro Comunale di Bologna website from September 3 onwards.
